A hidden treasure of over 1,000 historic gold coins has been sold for more than 3 million euros in Paris. The collection, carefully assembled by Paul Narce, was discovered in his former home in a small village in southwest France after his death in 2024.
Narce lived a quiet, modest life and spent his money collecting rare coins, including pieces from ancient Macedonia (336&ndash323 BC) and nearly complete sets from the reigns of French kings Louis XIV, XV, and XVI. Few people knew of his passion, and no one knew where he kept the collection.
Narce's collection spanned various historical periods. Beaussant Lefèvre & Associés
It was a notary who finally found the coins hidden behind a painting in a wall. In addition to the labeled collection, there were 10 packages each containing 172 gold 20 franc coins. The auction, organized by Beaussant Lefèvre, exceeded expectations with a final sale price of over 3 million euros.
