Department of Education of Taipei City Government held an activity called “ 108 Educational Achievements Awards and The End of the Year Performance for the New Resident’s Children” on November 30 at YouHua High School next to the Beitou MRT Station. The award-winning parents and children who participated in “Multicultural Picture Books Reading Game” were invited to a great awards ceremony. Also, there were “Multicultural Performances” and “Exotic Food and Delicacies Carnival” that impressed the participators with the new culture and new strength in Taiwan.
He Yajuan(何雅娟), deputy chief education officer, addressed and expressed her hope that the new residents’ families could feel the warm sense of belonging in Taipei. In the multiethnic and multicultural city, people respect every group of people and culture, language, and living style.
Shi Yuxu(施俞旭), the principal of Xin Min Junior High School, states that the purpose of “Multicultural Picture Books Reading Awards Ceremony”, which had been held twice already is to let the parents and children who earned the prizes enjoy the happiness of reading and being honored.
Besides, the carnival booths attracted 52 new booth members to register so that participators could be impressed with more unprecedented exotic cultural experiences.
Apart from Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines that people were familiar with, The End of the Year Performance also exhibited “Multicultural Performances" from Cambodia, Malaysia, China, Japan and other traditional cultures. The participators could not only enjoy the unique songs and dances of various countries but understood the essences of every culture through some DIY activities.The food at the booths of the "Exotic Food and Delicacies Carnival” which has no borders is always the most anticipated, and the people could experience the beauty of multiculturalism through tasting.
