Bookstore SEAMi held an event with commercial district at Taoyuan, providing new immigrants with a performance stage

SEAMi, South East Asia Migrant inspired (望見書間) has been established nearby Taoyuan Railway Rear Station since 2016. Over the years, the bookstore focuses on issues of migrant workers and new immigrants and provided them with a therapeutic space to rest after the hectic pace of life. At the same time, they have also organized various cultural exchange activities to enhance the two-way communication between Taiwanese and migrant workers.

To promote cultural exchanges in Southeast Asia and create economic recovery and growth for Taoyuan Railway Rear Station, SEAMi recently collaborated with street shops to hold Fun Feng Shi Ji (Fun風市集). The event provides a platform for migrant workers to showcase their strengths on the stage. Besides, there were various Southeast Asian stalls selling gourmet food, childhood games, costumes, books and providing music performances, fun activities, and art exhibitions, etc.

Moreover, the event cooperates with HEART (新滋識) to provide free AIDS screening and share health knowledge, attracting more than 500 participants on the event day and adding vibrancy to the city block of the Taoyuan Railway Rear Station.

Taoyuan City Migrant Workers Service Center(桃園市移工服務中心) held a Chinese language course for migrant workers this year and the students were presented with certificates of completion and gifts during the event that is full of joyful atmosphere.

Furthermore, the music band consists of migrant workers as well as migrant artists were also invited to give live performances.

A migrant worker from Vietnam, Hai Duong (海陽省) - Ruan Wen Quan (阮文全) stated that he was inspired by the founder of SEAMi - Lin Zhou Xi (林周熙) and decided to develop his interest in artistic creation after work and use metal wire to make handicrafts.

Through the promotion of the Market this time, his work can be seen by more people, and at the same time, he can also share the creating process of the artworks and life experiences in Taiwan, which is very fulfilling to him.
