According to [Manila Bulletin], the tropical storm with international name “Lupit” has entered the country’s area of responsibility at 5 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, and was assigned the local name “Huaning,” said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Tropical storm Huaning’s location was estimated at 535 kilometers (km) north-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes around 3 a.m.

Weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said Huaning and another tropical storm with international name “Mirinae” (formerly “Gorio”) may not directly affect the country but will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon.

The southwest monsoon or “habagat” is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Benguet, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands within 24 hours.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides as rains may become moderate to at times heavy.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to have partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with a chance of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA advised the public to remain vigilant against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.

According to [Manila Bulletin], Bulquerin said that Mirinae is not expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility as it continues to move away from the country.
