The National Immigration Department of the Ministry of Interior (NIA), under the command of the Director-General of NIA, Chiu Feng-kuang (邱豐光) on May 25 expanded the joint investigations of illegal migrants across Taiwan. All of 25 brigade affairs team members were mobilized, with about 487 staff people throughout the country, seized 165 illegal immigrants as the remarkable results.
In the first half of the year, the NIA handled the “Overstay Voluntary Departure Program Penalty Relief”. The project adopts a lenient and strict approach, those who arrived on their own during the project, will not be in jailed, the fine is about $2000 NTD, and reduce the blacklist period to Taiwan. Since the project is near at the end of the deadline, in addition to continue the advocate and encourage the case, the NIA also enhance the inspection density, demonstrate the positive actions of the immigration law enforcement, launched the national joint inspection on May 25, mobilized all the field staffs, and with the strong law enforcement, total about 141 inspections were conducted throughout the country in the foreign stores, restaurants, special business offices. The investigations seized 74 overstay foreigners, 91 people who are working illegally, 52 illegal employers, and 6 illegal agencies. With the flexible measures and strong willing, it aims for the overall reduction of the foreign residents who are illegal in Taiwan.
The Director-General of NIA, Chiu Feng-kuang said that the program of self-initiated report will be ended soon on June 30, calling on public who know that the foreigners who have illegally stay in Taiwan to encourage them grasp this opportunity, self-report by their own. The NIA also will continue to expand the joint inspection.
