According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the COVID-19 pandemic struck and put a halt to Psalms David's livelihood as the family's sole provider, leaving him at a loss.

It was really challenging, especially for a breadwinner. I had no idea what to do and was completely lost. How would that affect my work? There was uncertainty. I had to modify... His mental health suffered because of all his worries and fears. And as a form of solace during that challenging time, he turned to music. His third song, "Kaulayaw" which discusses constant and close companionship. Even though the Tagalog word is frequently used to describe romance, it need not necessarily be.

"Kaulayaw" was written more than two years ago, but it wasn't until this year, after GMA Music gave the song a try. My submission included two songs. I anticipated that they would pick the English song. Even though Kaulayaw's demo was unpolished and relaxing, they recognized its possibility.

Psalms said, "With more arrangements, it ended up sounding like my musical influences," naming Lauv, LANY, and Troye Sivan as some of his current favorites.
