TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Forestry Bureau’s Loudong Forest District Office (LFDO) will reopen Jioujhihze’s hot spring egg-boiling area (鳩之澤溫泉煮蛋區) in Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area (太平山國家森林遊樂區), Yilan County at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday (May 21) after an extensive renovation, offering free hot spring boiled eggs to visitors who come on the opening day.
Jioujhihze’s hot spring egg-boiling area had been in use for more than 20 years, which caused its pipelines to break down from time to time, before LFDO decided to close it down for renovation in September last year, the office said.
The renovation includes building two new hot spring egg-boiling pools to replace the old pool to reduce the crowdedness in the past, and adding more toilets, pavilions, and barrier-free passages to the place.
The egg-boiling area is close to Jioujhihze Hot Spring (鳩之澤溫泉), but they are separate facilities. Access to the egg-boiling area is free.
Even though the area is called “egg-boiling area,” visitors can bring not only eggs, but also other suitable fresh foods, such as corn and water bamboo, to boil.
The store at the egg-boiling area will also sell eggs, corn, and possibly water bamboo, and provide boiling baskets, so visitors can opt to buy the fresh foods from the store, instead of bringing their own foods, according to Jioujhihze employees.
LFDO recommends visitors to Jioujhihze to take a walk along Jiouhihze Natural Trail (鳩之澤自然步道), relax in the weakly alkaline water of Jioujhihze Hot Spring, then go to the egg-boiling area to enjoy the foods they boil.
