About 10 Years, Taiwan Students have Raised more than 140.000 Books with Love to Myanmar

To support Myanmar Chinese Mandarin Education Service, help the students and teachers in the Chinese schools in northern Myanmar, enrich the local book resources, increase the diversity of the books, and continue to enrich the reading resources of the North Myanmar Chinese School, Taipei Longmen Junior High School has participated in the book-raising donation event this year. This event promotes the world’s reading to their part, enhance the reading style, and inherit the Chinese culture.

Since 2008, the book-raising campaign has been initiated by the “Love Myanmar, NTNU” (緬麗伊甸園國際志工服務隊). Under the leadership of Associate Professor Yan Miaogui (顏妙桂) of the Department of Public Administration of NTNU, many people bringing their books with love, and has accumulated nearly 140.000 books that distributed to 50 schools in the North Myanmar, let many students in the area could open the window of knowledge from reading, explore the world. This year, there are 30 schools in Taiwan that participated.

This year, teacher Chen Huiwen (陳慧玟) also launched the book activity on campus, let the mentors, experts, and parents join the meetings and events, such as the weekly meeting, consolidate the consensus of teachers and students, advocate the teachers and students to participate in the book-raising activities, personally lead the 7th grade book director to organize and send the books with love to North Myanmar, including the toys, clothes, assisted by the voluntary mothers who cleaning up the books, listing, and seal them.

It has raised 34 boxes that contain 1.925 books, 6 boxes of clothing and toys, total 40 boxes, about 650 kg. These books are sent to the North Myanmar after collected the strength from the whole participants of the school, raising event for three weeks, bit a bit. There were teachers, students, brothers, sisters, husband and wife, parents, students, alumni, and Longmen future students. The ages of the participants were wide. Even Taiwan is thousand miles away from North Myanmar, but the students were very happy, they hope to make the receivers happy. Together, with the practical actions to expand the value of book education, improve the subsequent extension of related materials such as the books, take on more social responsibilities, reflect Longmen culture and spirit, and practice the promotion of international education true meaning. The event was done on Wednesday, May 15, at 10 am, they were gathered in the library and were moving all the various books to the Heping Gate, took picture, moved the things to the truck, and send it to the place for the collection for the perfect ending.
