Policeman Yang Wei-cheng (楊惟程), based in Wanhua, Taipei, shared insights on his duty in the once epicenter of COVID-19 during the outbreak since mid-May through a virtual interview with NIA Global News Network.

Yang, from the Wanhua Precinct of Taipei City Police Department (台北市政府警察局-萬華分局), said he became a policeman following his father’s footsteps, now having four-year experience on crime scenes.

Yang pointed out that although stigma associated with the pandemic has been threatening the district, plexiglass shields and plastic curtains, tents, and screens have been installed and there were at least three rapid test stations in Wanhua as measures to combat the virus.

Homeless people in Wanhua have also become the scapegoat and victims of the residents’ discrimination and assaults. Yang said the residents’ panic was understandable, but encouraged the public to send relief to them as he did.
