In our daily lives, there are many hidden toxins. Dr. Liu Bor-Ren, an expert in nutritional and anti-aging medicine, pointed out that the key to protecting oneself from toxins lies in simple, everyday measures. He shared several practical tips on his Facebook page to help people effectively guard against the harmful effects of toxins on their health.

Dr. Liu emphasized that quitting smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, and reducing the use of over-the-counter medications are the first steps in toxin prevention. He explained that smoking and alcohol not only increase the body’s toxic burden, but long-term use of over-the-counter medications can also lead to liver and kidney damage, disrupting the normal function of detoxification organs. Dr. Liu also reminded the public to reduce the use of plastic bags for hot food, avoid overuse of body wash and air fresheners, and be mindful when selecting cosmetics. Additionally, he advised minimizing the consumption of canned foods and washing hands thoroughly after handling thermal paper or clay. Installing air purifiers at home can also help reduce sources of pollution.

In terms of diet, Dr. Liu recommended eating more cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, bok choy, and Brussels sprouts, which have been shown to lower the risk of oral, esophageal, colorectal, and breast cancers. Other beneficial foods include garlic, turmeric, avocado, asparagus, apples, and citrus fruits, which are rich in nutrients that aid detoxification.

Dr. Liu also suggested promoting detoxification through sweating and highlighted the importance of getting enough sleep for liver repair. Sleep not only enhances the liver’s detoxification efficiency but also helps the brain clear out waste, reducing the risk of brain damage and cognitive decline. He especially advised those with high blood pressure, high blood sugar, or high cholesterol to manage their conditions and limit sugar intake in cases of fatty liver to reduce liver fat buildup and improve detoxification capacity.
