Cooperative Education Program for Overseas Compatriot Students is the First Choice for New Southbound Young People

To coordinate with the governments' "New Southbound Policy", the Overseas Community Affairs Council has actively promoted "The 3+4 Vocational Education Program for Overseas Compatriot Students" according to the national Cooperative Program in Vocational High Schools to ease the labor shortage because of the low birth rate and to encourage the young people from the New Southbound countries to come to study in Taiwan. Since 2014, there have been more than 2,000 people (7.5 times as much as before) that came for studying in Taiwan. Obviously, the Cooperative Education Program for Overseas Compatriot Students has become one of the popular choices for New Southbound young people.

To implement the concept "Learning by doing", "The 3+4 Vocational Education Program for Overseas Compatriot Students" of the Overseas Community Affairs Council has undertaken the Industry-Academia Cooperative Education Program that the 3-year educational system pf high schools continues with the 4-year universities of science and technology. The learning system changes in the rotation (three months in schools, three months in factories), and the salary will be paid for students to finish their studies and adapt to the workplace.

Taiwan has a perfect system of vocational education and enough environments for learning Chinese. Overseas compatriot students not only can learn Chinese through the Industry-Academia Cooperative Education Program but will be benefited when they're back in their workplace. Besides, it also makes up the deficiency of technical manpower in Taiwan to further bring a win-win situation for the academia and the industry.
