According to Hunger in Filipino families slightly falls in 3rd quarter of 2023 – SWS | Inquirer News, the percentage of Filipino households experiencing involuntary hunger at least once in the previous three months fell to 9.8% in September 2023, according to a Social Weather Stations (SWS) study.

It was less than the 10.4 percent recorded in June 2023, which held true to the information that was noted in March of that year.

September 2023 saw a decline in hunger across the Visayas and parts of Luzon outside of Metro Manila, according to the pollster.

However, in Mindanao and Metro Manila, according to Hunger in Filipino families slightly falls in 3rd quarter of 2023 – SWS | Inquirer News, the figures increased somewhat.

At 17.3%, Metro Manila had the greatest rate of hunger, followed by Balance Luzon (10.3%), the Visayas (6.7%), and Mindanao (6.7%).

According to the pollster, the 9.8% hunger rate in September 2023 was made up of 1.3% of people who suffered severe hunger and 8.4% of those who experienced moderate hunger.

Families classified as "moderately hungry," according to Social Weather Stations (SWS), had gone without food "only once" or "a few times" in the previous three months.

Those who classified as poor also saw a decrease in their overall hunger rate, which SWS showed fell from 10.8 percent in June 2023 to 7.7 percent in September 2023.

The percentage of those who said they were "food-poor" similarly saw a decline in hunger, from 9.4% to 7% in the same time frame.

In person interviews with 1,200 individuals in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao took place from September 28 to October 1.
