From Ximending to Yangmingshan! Explore Taipei's Top 5 Must-Visit Spots

This year (113), Taipei’s tourist attractions continue to draw large crowds. According to the Taipei City Government's Department of Information and Tourism, total visitors to major attractions reached 69.22 million as of August 113, a 76% increase from the 39.33 million visitors in the same period last year. The top five attractions popular among domestic and international tourists are, in order: Ximending Shopping District, Taipei 101, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, Yangmingshan, and Red House in Ximen.

Ximending Shopping District tops the list with 20.21 million visitors, making it the hottest destination from January to August this year. Close to multiple transportation hubs, Ximending offers a mix of cultures, from Taiwanese street food to pop culture including movies, music, creative arts, tattoos, and street performances that attract global visitors. Accommodations in the area are diverse, including Japanese hotel groups and local brands like Forte Orange Group, providing high-value lodging experiences.

Taipei 101 comes in second with 8.09 million visitors. As a classic landmark of Taipei, it’s a must-visit spot for foreign tourists, especially popular among visitors from Japan, Europe, America, Australia, and New Zealand. In third place is Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, attracting 6.28 million visitors. Formerly the Songshan Tobacco Factory, this park combines historical and modern designs and hosts numerous exhibitions and events each year, offering a rich cultural and creative experience. Yangmingshan ranks fourth with 4.51 million visitors. Known for its natural landscapes, it’s a top destination for escaping the city noise, especially popular in spring when flowers bloom. Yangmingshan’s hot springs and unique guesthouses, such as Maple Smile Inn and CHECK inn Select Taipei Yangmingshan, allow visitors to enjoy the beauty of nature.

Finally, Red House in Ximen ranks fifth with 3.03 million visitors. Built during the Japanese era, Red House is now a symbol of Taipei's LGBTQ+ culture. The annual Taiwan Pride Parade in October attracts global tourists to this venue.

The Department of Information and Tourism emphasized that the city government will continue to promote Taipei as a globally competitive tourist city, enhancing service and safety at attractions, and strengthening domestic and international marketing to attract more visitors.
