As the domestic Covid-19 vaccine is launched, many people are worried about the side effects of the vaccine. Some people received the AZ vaccine, and some people received the Moderna vaccine. Aside from preparing themselves before the vaccination, how should they observe and be aware of after the administration of the vaccine? Hsu Shu-hua (許書華), a physician at the Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital (輔仁大學附設醫院), reminded the public to observe the precautions at different points in time after the vaccination.

After receiving the AZ vaccine and the Moderna vaccine, please pay attention to these “5 points in time”

  1. Within 30 minutes after receiving the vaccine

Within 30 minutes after receiving the AZ vaccine or the Modena vaccine: If you have trouble in breathing, drop in blood pressure, vomiting, swelling of the tongue and throat, skin rash, etc., you must call for help immediately.

  1. Within 3 days after receiving the vaccine

Within 3 days after receiving the AZ vaccine or the Moderna vaccine, if you experience fever, tiredness, nausea, headache, muscle aches, joint pain, chills, etc. and if it persists for more than 3 days, with "no improvement" or with "new symptoms", you must immediately seek medical attention.

  1. Within 7 to 8 days after receiving the Moderna vaccine

A "Covid-19 arm" may appear after receiving the Moderna vaccine. The arm will be swollen, hot and itchy. The way to relieve it is with ice or anti-inflammatory painkillers.

  1. Within 4 to 28 days after receiving the AZ vaccine

After receiving the AZ vaccine, the most serious adverse reaction is thrombosis. The observation period is from the 4th to the 28th day. If you experience any of the following: shortness of breath, chest pain, persistent abdominal pain, lower limb swelling and pain, persistent headache, double vision, and unexplained bruises on the skin, seek medical attention immediately.

  1. After receiving the second dose of the Moderna vaccine

After the second dose of the Moderna vaccine, the most significant adverse reaction is "myocarditis." If you experience any of the following: chest pain, wheezing, and rapid heartbeat, be sure to seek medical attention immediately.
