Due to the higher transmissibility of the Omicron variant, the cluster found in Kaohsiung Port is the 8th Omicron chain of transmission emerging in Taiwan. CECC Emergency Response Group Deputy Division Director Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) stated, “The results of gene sequencing confirmed that 3 cases of the cluster in Kaohsiung Port are all from the Philippines.”

This wave of COVID-19 Omicron variant cases has previously created 7 chains of transmission, of which 1 starts from a cleaner working at the Taoyuan International Airport to a bank, a restaurant, campuses, a family of four in Hsinchu, migrant workers at Askey Computer Corp. located at Taoyuan Farglory Free Trade Zone.

Besides, 1 chain starts from a pandemic prevention staff, 1 chain starts from a nurse working in the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, 2 chains start from nurses working in the Taipei City Hospital Zhongxing Branch & Renai Branch each, and 2 start from taxi drivers who were infected by imported cases.
