A lift technician at a Dutch museum accidentally discarded a piece of artwork that looked like two empty beer cans. French artist Alexandre Lavet's "All the good times we spent together" was crafted to resemble ordinary cans, yet it was actually a meticulous acrylic painting. For Lavet, the cans represent treasured memories with friends. The artwork had been displayed in a glass lift shaft as part of the museum’s practice of showcasing pieces in unconventional spots to challenge viewers’ perceptions.
The museum, located in Lisse, about 30 kilometers from Amsterdam, clarified that they bear no ill will towards the technician, who was covering for the regular staff. “It’s a testament to the realism of Lavet’s art,” said museum director Sietske van Zanten. The cans were later retrieved intact, cleaned, and given a special display at the museum entrance.
