The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced on July 22 that there were 2 cases of local dengue fever in Tainan. They live together and often go to in the Barclay Memorial Park (巴克禮公園) in the Eastern District of Tainan. The park was probably the source of infection and 3 cases have been accumulated that related to this park. Considering the safety of public health, the Tainan City Government announced that it will be closed the Barclay Memorial Park for two weeks.
CDC said that two new cases were over 70-year-old male (Case 1) and over 40-year-old women (Case 2) who live in Chongming village area (崇明里), they live together as father and daughter, and no travelling abroad history recent. They had illness on July 16 and July 20, respectively. Case 1 was reported on July 21 due to NS1 positive notification. Case 2, although she had suspect symptoms but did not seek medical treatment, the NS1 positive notification was made during the contact person inspection by the health unit. Both cases were diagnosed with dengue virus type 2.
According to the CDC, two cases not only usually live outside the home in Chongming village area, in the Eastern District of Tainan, but also go to the Barclay Memorial Park, Heping village, Chongde Market, and Dongcai Market. According to the date of illness, the activity history and the current situation of the Tainan epidemic, the risk of infection from the two people in the surrounding area of Chongming village area is higher.
In view of the fact that this confirmed case and the former case confirmed that they did the activity at the Barclay Memorial Park, it shows that the area is a high-risk area. The epidemic prevention staff went to the park to strengthen chemical control on July 20 and went to the confirmed case’s home to spray mosquitoes and clean the source of mosquitoes around the home and the activity area.
Huang Wei-zhe (黃偉哲), the City Mayor and City Government team considered the safety of the public health, and decided to close the park for two weeks for preventive and control risk.
There are 58 cases of local dengue fever in Taiwan, including 44 cases in Kaohsiung City (36 cases in Sanmin District, 3 cases in Qianzhen District, 2 cases in Zuoying District, 1 case in Fengshan District, Gushan District and Luzhu District). There are 14 cases in Tainan City (5 cases in the Eastern District, 4 cases in the Central and Western District, 1 case in Yongkang District, Southern District, Annan District, Zuozhen District and Xinhua District).
