The news of his passing surprised and saddened many, including talk show host Oprah Winfrey, who paid tribute to Donahue on social media. "There would be no Oprah Show without Phil Donahue," Winfrey wrote. "He was a pioneer, and I'm glad I had the chance to thank him. Rest in peace, Phil."

From 1967 to 1996, Donahue hosted "The Phil Donahue Show" for nearly three decades, becoming a legendary figure in television. Even after the show ended 28 years ago, Donahue remained in the public eye, most recently receiving the Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden in May.
