This year's No. 5 typhoon “Danas” (named after the Philippines) will fastest form tonight (July 15th), the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said that the low-pressure belt in the eastern part of the Philippines is developing. Since the Japan Meteorological Agency has upgraded it to a tropical depression yesterday (July 14), however, the Central Weather Bureau did not rule out the enhancement to a tropical depression yesterday. This low-pressure will be will be enhanced to a mild typhoon “Danas” around July 15-16. On Wednesday (July 17), the eastern and the southern will be affected by its circulation, and the probability of rainfall will increase.
According to the UDN and Liberty Times report, CWB said yesterday that the Philippine eastern low-pressure belt will be upgraded to a typhoon as soon as possible. It is estimated that typhoon Danas will go through the Bashi Channel which will affect to the weather in Taiwan, and there will be partial heavy rain in the eastern and the southern of Taiwan. However, the exact time and scope of the impact must continue to be observed.
Zhang Cheng-chuan (張承傳), the CWB forecaster said that the Philippine eastern low-pressure belt has a tendency to developing into a typhoon. It will fastest develop into a typhoon tonight (July 16), it is expected to enter the South China Sea through the Bashi Channel and head toward Guangdong, China.
If the Pacific high-pressure is significantly weakened in these few days, the typhoon Danas will be close to Taiwan, if the high-pressure power is still strong, the tropical system will maintain a certain distance from Taiwan. Therefore, the specific impact on Taiwan will depend on the strength of the high pressure.
On the other hand, CWB reported that yesterday, the Pacific high pressure was strong and the whole Taiwan was hot. The temperature in the Hualien and Taitung area was higher than that in the western. CWB observed that the highest temperature in the whole Taiwan was 38.1 degrees Celsius in Fuyuan, Hualien County, and over 36 degree Celsius in Taitung. The southwesterly winds are relatively weak today (July15) and extreme high temperatures are expected to ease slightly.
