The International Olympic Committee (IOC, 國際奧林匹克委員會) recently voted and announced that Brisbane, Australia, (澳洲布里斯本) won the right to host the 2032 Summer Games. It will become the third Australian city to host the Summer Olympics after Melbourne (墨爾本) and Sydney (雪梨). At the same time, celebration fireworks were set off in the Brisbane sky.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison (澳洲總理莫里森) said: This is a historic day, not only for Brisbane and Queensland (昆士蘭州), but also for the whole country. Only a major international city can host the Summer Olympics, so this is a proper recognition of Brisbane's status locally and internationally. Crowds of people filled the open space around the South Bank of Brisbane to participate in the announcement party, while watching the delegation’s final briefing to the IOC on a large video screen.

Competition venues will be scattered in Brisbane and neighboring towns in Queensland, including the Gold Coast (黃金海岸), which hosted the Commonwealth Games (大英國協運動會) in 2018. People from all sectors of society in Australia hope that through the Olympics, Brisbane’s tourism will be promoted. The Olympics will cost about 5 billion Australian dollars (about NT$102.5 billion), and the opening and closing are expected to take place at the newly renovated Gabba Cricket Ground (加巴板球場).
