According to data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, bananas and plantains rank fourth among global food crops, following rice, wheat, and corn, and serve as a primary food source for approximately 400 million people worldwide. Recently, Taiwan's Agriculture and Food Agency shared a recipe for making banana pound cake using a rice cooker on their official Facebook page, "Fresh Enjoyment - Agriculture and Food Agency," showcasing the versatility of bananas as a dessert ingredient.Using a rice cooker, turn bananas into delicious pound cake (Photo/Source: Fresh Enjoy Agriculture - Agriculture Agency Facebook)

The Agriculture and Food Agency pointed out that bananas are not only a fruit to be eaten fresh but can also be made into various desserts. Bananas are rich in potassium, magnesium, vitamin C, folic acid, and dietary fiber, which aid digestion and promote bowel movements. They are nutritious and flavorful. When used in dessert making, bananas add moisture and a rich aroma, making them a perfect choice for afternoon tea.

The banana pound cake recipe recommended by the Agriculture and Food Agency is simple and easy to follow, requiring only a few common ingredients. The ingredients include 300 grams of bananas, 200 grams of cake flour, 3 eggs, 50 grams of fresh milk, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1.5 tablespoons of sugar, 1 tablespoon of oil, and 1 teaspoon of salt. The steps are as follows:

  • Mash: Peel the bananas and mash them into a paste.
  • Mix: Sift the cake flour and mix with the other ingredients until smooth, then pour the batter into a greased inner pot of the rice cooker.
  • Steam: Place the pot into the rice cooker, add two cups of water to the outer pot, and steam until the cooker switches off, then let it sit for another 10 minutes.
  • Check for doneness: Insert a chopstick into the cake. If it comes out clean, the cake is done. If not, add another cup of water and continue steaming until fully cooked.
