Compulsory Military Service will extend to one year to those born after 2005, Monthly salary will be increased to NT$20,320

Adjustment Plan". President Tsai, Ing-wen(蔡英文) recently held a national security council with high-level officials and decided to extend the compulsory military service to one year, effective January 1^st, 2024. The monthly salary of conscripts will increase from the current salary of NT$6,510 to NT$20,320, “Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network" reminds parents of new immigrants and their children to pay more attention.

President Tsai pointed out that the compulsory military service will be extended to one year for safeguard the national security. In addition to strengthening the training content, the salary of conscripts will also be increased. Taking the Private as an example, the salary is NT$10,130, plus the professional bonus is NT$10,190. A total of NT$20,320; plus NT$1,240 for military insurance and NT$1,839 for national health insurance, and NT$2,908 for staple and non-staple food, the total is NT$26,307.

In addition, draftees who have served 4 months of obligatory military service asked whether they need to "reserve the military service as a soldier"? , to which the Ministry of National Defense clearly gave a “No” as an answer in response.

According to the Ministry of National Defense, four-month military training will be remained for draftees who were born from January 1^st, 1994, to December 31^st, 2004; other draftees born after January 1, 2005, will be recruited for one-year obligatory military service. According to the Act of Military Service System, draftees will be included in the classification of reverse service until separation. And there will not be an issue of making up the rest of service.

The eligibility for substitute service has also become more tighten and must meet two categories of family and religious factors. Meanwhile, the service period will be resumed to one year and the salary will be adjusted in order to cater to the fairness of military service, in accordance with the service for regulars. As for the eligibility for substitute service of religious factors, the service period will be adjusted to one year and two months. (The draftees of substitute service will be divided into four groups based on their specialties, which includes disaster prevention and rescue, public security maintenance, social services, and public services, and are incorporated into the overall operation of the civil defense system.)
