Second Generation Food in Hsinchu, Promotes Self Identity and Handmade Mother Country Food

In order to enrich the new second generation life during summer, Hsinchu City New Residents Family Service Center recently handled “the New Second Generation's  Happy Canteen”, invited 20 new second generations from 12 to 18 years old to the scene, transformed the new residents’ center to become the exotic Southeast Asia dining hall, spend the summer vacation in laugh.

This time, the new second generation Happy Canteen invited the owner of “Pondok Sunny”, as well as the new second generation Li Yiting (李依庭). She led other new generations to make the Southeast Asian cuisines, such as spicy turmeric fried chicken legs, shrimp paste fried vegetables and the coconut rice. They prepared the ingredients, cooking it, and served it in the plate, all from the heart and creativity of the new second generation.

This event invited the Youth Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Education, Lin Zongwei (林宗洧), his mother is a new resident from Vietnam. He shared the journey of growing up. Jodie Workshop Studio also invited, to teach the new second generation to use the spatial layout, let the center full of Southeast Asia atmosphere taste.

The 18 years old second generation, Chen Shuang-shuang (陳雙雙) has a mother from China. She affected by the mother who often do voluntary activities and enthusiast in social service. When participating in the parent-child activities of the New Residents’ Family Service Center, they served as the volunteers of team assistants. This time, she took the initiative to participate in the new second generation happy canteen, hope to cook and enjoy the food as well as slowly flying as an angel.

Another new second generation, Zheng Yu-sheng (鄭宇昇) has a mother from Vietnam. She said that during the service, watching their smile when they enjoy the delicious food made the happiness bloom in their heart!

Li Jiying (李季縈) the Head of Social Affairs said that in the process of services, they founded that many new residents’ children are growing up with the issue of motherland’s culture identity, especially during the middle school, when it is the important moment of self-identification. Through the new second generation Happy Canteen they invited the new generations with successful experience to spend summer together, invited people with mental disabilities to have meal together, let the new second generation to have a chance giving back to the society, as well as the highlight of the new second generations’ energy.
