According to Philippines eyes codes of conduct to keep peace in South China Sea | Global News (inquirer.net), as the situation worsens, the Philippines' president stated that in order to maintain peace in the South China Sea, the country must work with its neighbors and partners to adopt rules of behavior.

Speaking on November 20 in the Philippines via live streaming from Hawaii, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated that upholding law and order was of utmost importance.

According to him, the Philippines has made contact with Vietnam and Malaysia, two additional countries in Southeast Asia with whom it has territorial conflicts.

As promised in 2002, according to Philippines eyes codes of conduct to keep peace in South China Sea | Global News (inquirer.net), China has been collaborating with the Philippines and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in recent years to develop a framework for a code of conduct.

Nonetheless, progress has been sluggish due to ongoing discussions on its substance and uncertainties regarding China's commitment to a legally enforceable set of guidelines given its territorial claims over much of the South China Sea.

Maintaining and enhancing partnerships is crucial for the Philippines.
