2021 ASEAN Good Voice! Migrant workers & new residents presented an audio-visual feast to audiences

According to 4wayvoice, the Labor Affairs Bureau, Taichung City Government has been organizing “ASEAN Good Voice” (東協好聲音) activities for many years to promote pluralism and interaction among migrant workers, new residents, and citizens and the competition is well-liked by all. In response to the epidemic, the competition stage was moved into the studio this year. Therefore, the contestants were able to show their amazing voices without time and space restriction. Ultimately, Zhang Lu Lu (張露露) from Indonesia won the championship and received a Carrefour gift voucher worth NT$15,000.

The director of Labor Affairs Bureau, Taichung City Government Zhang Da Chun (張大春) said that this city has the second-highest population of migrant workers and the 5th highest population of new residents in Taiwan. They have brought multiculturalism and vitality to Taichung, forming the unique charm of Taiwan with constant interaction between them and the Taiwanese.

This year, the Labor Affairs Bureau organized the ASEAN Good Voice Singing Competition to provide a platform for them to show their talents. In the future, it will continue to promote various activities and let everyone see new residents’ and migrant workers’ enthusiasm and energetic sides. The Bureau hopes everyone in

There are 15 groups of contestants from ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Japan, China and Malaysia. Besides migrant workers living in Taiwan, new residents and their children also team up to participate in the contest.  Each group gives excellent performances and shows wonderful singing skills. Interactions of different ethnic groups & cultures are further promoted through each group’s outstanding performances with distinctive singing styles.

In the finals, there were 8 contestants and many of them were donned traditional costumes of their home countries. This presented an audio-visual feast to audiences. The chairman of busker craft union in Taichung City Lei Ying (雷英), professional music instructor Cai Sen Xiong (蔡森雄), the supervisor of Taichung Jazz Star Friends Association Su Ping He (蘇平和), and the fifth championship winner - Mary West from the Philippines were also invited. They judge the competition based on participants’ singing skills, stage presence and overall performance. In the end, Zhang Lu Lu got the first prize with Sandy Lam Yik Lin’s (林憶蓮) classic song “At Least I've Got You”.
