“Wood art & Craft Joint Exhibition” invite four new immigrants & craftsmen to exhibit their art creations

The press conference of the "Drift. Stay - New Immigrants' Wood art & Craft Joint Exhibition (漂．留－新住民木藝工藝聯展)" is organized by The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute. The artworks will be displayed in the first exhibition room of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, Miaoli Branch from now on.

This exhibition is based on the concept of cultural equity and four new immigrants & craftsmen, Lin Feng (林峰), Made Sukariawan, Guo Su Yi (郭素亦) and Calvin Lai (Calvin Lai) were invited to display their artworks and speak their stories through the art.

The Deputy Director of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, Jiang Rui Xun (江瑞燐), pointed out that this exhibition consists of three sub-topics, “Inheritance of the Native Land”, “Taking root in Taiwan”, “Creativity & Novelty”. Starting from the exhibition area of “Inheritance of Native Land”, the new immigrants' unique and exotic creations will explain their homelands and connect with the cultural memory.

“Taking root in Taiwan” shows that the new immigrants residing in Taiwan immerse themselves in local customs. Lastly, “Creativity & Novelty” use Taiwan's native imagery and natural environment as the main theme to transform the new immigrants' understanding of life into the source of innovative creations.

The new immigrants are also members of Taiwan’s multi-ethnic society. Through this exhibition, it is hoped to enable the public to experience the unique craftsmanship of new immigrants’ cultures. At the same time, to cultivate a better understanding of the cultural identity as well as promote cultural equity.
