The Ministry of the Interior National Immigration Agency (NIA) held the 9th graduation ceremony for students who took the Vocational Training on December 7. Hsu Kuo-Yung (徐國勇), the Minister of the Interior, attended the ceremony and publicly commended the students’ hard work and professionalism.

Standing out from more than 1,400 candidates and passing rigorous training with the best results, the students will soon become the outstanding new force in the NIA. It is hoped that in the future, they will contribute to society with knowledge they have learned and become the backbone of national security, implementing human rights protection.

Hsu Kuo-Yung stated that the NIA is responsible for multiple tasks such as safeguarding Taiwan’s national borders, implementing immigration policies, promoting multiculturalism, and protecting the human rights of immigrants. Besides training, some of the trainees obtained a social worker license, and are able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in different languages. Others have served in the police force or naval force for many years. They bravely grow in breadth and depth and discover career opportunities, energizing their lives.

For example, one of the trainees has a master's degree in operations management from the University of Bath, UK and was admitted by a well-known domestic technology company. However, he observed that the work of the NIA is diverse and challenging, and hence decided to give up the high-paying job and sign up for immigration officer examination.

Another student, who has a relative working in the NIA, often heard stories about caring & assisting new immigrants as well as investigating illegal criminal syndicates.

Therefore, she started having an interest in NIA works. Even if she is over 40, she still took an initiative to learn the second language – Indonesian and traveled to Indonesia to study language courses at her own expense.

After 3 years of hard work, she finally got admitted to the job and finished the training. From an ordinary housewife to an immigration officer, she changed her life with perseverance and self-discipline and become the best role model for her children and the pride of their families!
