In order to cope with the steady growth of the number of inbound passengers, it is expected that from 1st January 2023, the payment for quarantine and treatment of COVID-19 will be adjusted according to the current identity of the patient:

1. For person who has Taiwanese nationality, regardless of whether they have health insurance or not, foreigners with health insurance, as well as foreigners employed in Taiwan, including blue-collar migrant workers, white-collar applicants, missing migrant workers, and domestic migrant workers, the relevant expenses during the period of diagnosis and quarantine treatment shall be covered by the government budget.

2. If a non-Taiwanese nationality without health insurance is diagnosed with COVID while in Taiwan, the relevant costs during the period of diagnosis and quarantine treatment shall be borne by the patient.

Therefore, the command center suggests that tourists and short-term exchange students in Taiwan can apply for medical insurance before entering Taiwan, and should also abide by the current epidemic prevention rules during their stay in Taiwan.
