On May 21, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminded Taiwanese people that they should purchase appropriate insurance before travelling abroad, so as to avoid expensive medical care expenses when they are sick had an accident and need medical treatment abroad.
The deputy director of the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA), Tsai You-wen (蔡幼文), said at a regular press conference yesterday (21) that the Bureau of Consular Affairs received information from the Embassies & Mission abroad almost every week, indicating that the Taiwanese had an accident during travelling or was hospitalized, but the local medical expenses were too high, resulting in a heavy financial burden on their family.
Tsai You-wen reminds that in addition to buying general travel insurance, also recommends buying enough overseas accident-related medical insurance, especially for people with cardiovascular diseases. Travel abroad often fatigued and climate change. Recently, there are two cases of Taiwanese people having a Heat Stroke during travelling aboard.
In addition, Tsai You-wen said that there are still people who mistakenly believe that they are granted visa-free access to foreign countries and freely entry into the country. So when Taiwanese people enter the immigration counters abroad, they are unable to provide relevant travel documents and were rejected to enter the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on Taiwanese people that before you travel aboard, you should first check the visa and entry regulations of that country in the websites of Foreign Embassies & Mission in Taiwan or Taiwan Bureau of Consular Affairs website.
