Search for Your Second Mother project reconnects Taiwanese with their Southeast Asian nanny

“Search for Your Second Mother” is a project launched by Radio Taiwan International (RTI) and other organizations, in aim to help Taiwanese find their Southeast Asian domestic helper.

According to RTI, Radio Taiwan International, along with Commonwealth Magazine and other civic groups, has successfully helped four Taiwanese families to reconnect with their former Southeast Asian domestic helpers since 2020.

The project, titled “Search for Your Second Mother,” aims to help Taiwanese employers to reconnect with migrant workers hired years ago to care for their young children.

One successful case involves an Indonesian migrant worker named Dwi and the baby named Hsu Tzu-han. Last year, the two reconnected on Mother’s Day after losing contact for 15 years.

RTI mentions, Hsu, a college student now, has been learning Indonesian for three months. This year, she is planning to email Dwi a Mother’s Day card, which will be written in Indonesian.
