Statistics revealed the top 10 causes of death for 2022 by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. For 41 years running, cancer has been the main cause of death among the top 10, whereas COVID-19 rose from 19th to third. The deputy director of Taiwan Centers of Disease Control also predicted that COVID-19, which accounts for a comparable number of deaths as diabetes and high blood pressure, will remain among the top 10 causes of death in 2024.

In 2022, there will be 51,927 cancer-related deaths, up 271 from 2021. This indicates that the death rate from cancer is still high.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare's Director of Statistics responded to the question of how the COVID-19 epidemic has affected the number of deaths by pointing out that 14,667 people died as a result of COVID-19 in 2022, with people over the age of 65 accounting for about 80% of all deaths, demonstrating that the elderly are the group most severely affected by the pandemic.

The number of deaths attributable to COVID-19 has fallen from the first to the third peak in nations where the outbreak started earlier, such as the United States and the United Kingdom, while ranking of regions where the outbreak started later, such as Australia and Taiwan, has risen to third place.
