According to DA allows fish importation for wet markets in Oct to Dec | Inquirer Business, frozen fish imports for wet markets were approved by the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the third quarter of this year.

From October 1 through December 31 of this year, 35,000 metric tons (MT) of frozen round scad (galunggong), bigeye scad, mackerel, bonito, and moonfish may be imported under the terms of a memorandum circular issued by the Department of Agriculture.

The agency stated in its letter dated August 15 that this order would go into effect right away and would stay in effect unless explicitly reversed.

According to DA allows fish importation for wet markets in Oct to Dec | Inquirer Business, only those importers will be permitted to import if they can register with the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) within seven working days of the order's issuance.

Eighty percent of the 35,000 MT maximum importable volume will be distributed to registered importers in the commercial fishing industry, with the remaining twenty percent going to fishery groups and cooperatives.

Import permissions will be provided in two tranches: the first from October 1 to October 30 and the second from November 6 to November 30. All import clearances are only good for 45 days after they are issued and are regarded as expired after January 15, 2024.

Before receiving sanitary and phytosanitary import clearance, the importer must have a leasing agreement for a cold storage facility or warehouse, it stated.
