Shoushan Zoo is combating the scorching summer heat by preparing a series of cooling strategies for the animals, helping them stay energetic despite the intense temperatures. The zoo has specially created a variety of refreshing environments, from soaking pools to fruit ice treats, allowing the animals to enjoy coolness while also enhancing their quality of life.

The zoo has meticulously designed various ice treats, including colorful fruit popsicles and the animals' favorite fruits frozen inside coconut shells, adding an element of fun to their feeding routine. For instance, chimpanzees use their nimble fingers to pick out fruits from the ice, while black bears use their teeth and claws to break the ice, savoring the cool taste slowly. Additionally, black bears and capybaras can enjoy a bath in large tubs, while elephants benefit from occasional water spray sessions to keep them comfortable in the heat. The clever chimpanzee catches the melting ice water with its mouth. The water plaza in the zoo is also a paradise for children, with facilities like mist sprays, wading pools, and jungle rain showers providing endless fun. During the summer vacation, children under 12 can enter the zoo for free, allowing parents to spend a refreshing and fulfilling holiday with their kids at the zoo. Parents have noted that the zoo's water play facilities and free admission policy make it the best choice for summer outings.A capybara cooling off in the water, looking adorable while spacing out. To make it easier for visitors to reach the zoo, Shoushan Zoo offers convenient shuttle services. In addition to Bus 56, which goes directly to the zoo, extra shuttle buses are available on weekends during the summer, making it easier for the public to reach the zoo entrance.
