The Taichung City Government Tourism Bureau has enhanced the rest facilities of the Dongfeng Bicycle Green Corridor by securing funding from the Executive Yuan's Local Revitalization Program in 2023, totaling 8 million NTD, including 5.04 million NTD in central subsidies and 2.96 million NTD in self-raised funds by the city government. The upgrades were implemented at the Wanxing Community Rest Area at the 6.2K mark of the Dongfeng Bicycle Green Corridor. This renovation included green beautification, facility optimization, and the configuration of pathways and recreational areas, which have now been completed and are open to provide a new natural retreat for citizens and tourists.
Director of the Tourism Bureau, Chen Meixiu, stated that the Wanxing Community Rest Area is managed by the Wanxing Community Development Association. However, due to long-term use, the facilities had become outdated, and the overgrown plants inside made the area visually cluttered, making it hard for visitors to notice the rest area. The Tourism Bureau, incorporating feedback from the local community, carried out comprehensive green beautification, planting multi-layered vegetation such as Blue Moon Cranes, Variegated Pittosporum, and Coastal False Bracken Fern. Additionally, forest trails, children's play equipment, and fitness facilities were added, providing a friendly space for visitors to connect with nature and enjoy family recreation. The project also optimized the old irrigation system by adding semi-automatic watering equipment to meet the ecological needs of local plants, reducing future maintenance efforts.
The Tourism Bureau further recommends that friends from all over the country come to the Dongfeng Bicycle Green Corridor in Taichung to enjoy a leisurely and vibrant trip. The Dongfeng Bicycle Green Corridor spans 13.6 kilometers, featuring not only the Wanxing Community Rest Area but also passing by popular attractions like Shigang Dam, Magpie Bridge, Lover’s Wooden Bridge, Shishui Keng Leisure Agricultural Park, and the Dongshi Hakka Cultural Park. Along the route, there are rest areas, informational boards, and signposts, and the gentle paths are perfect for friends to ride or families to explore together.
