Portugal has unveiled the world’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge, 516 Arouca, stretching 516 meters (1,692 feet) over the Paiva Gorge in Arouca, just an hour south of Porto. Suspended 176 meters (576 feet) above the River Paiva, this Tibetan-style hanging bridge offers breathtaking views of the Aguieiras Waterfall, the gorge, and the river below through its open metal grid pathway.

Constructed over three years and completed in July 2020, the bridge features a deck made of 127 four-meter-long modules and is supported by steel cables and two massive V-shaped towers. It connects the Paiva Walkways and nearby natural attractions, making it a must-visit for thrill-seekers, nature enthusiasts, and engineering fans.

516 Arouca surpasses Switzerland's Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge (1,621 feet) as the world’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge. It adds to the Arouca Geopark’s reputation for extreme sports and adventure tourism, offering a unique blend of engineering marvel and natural beauty.
