Director Zhang Huimei of the Health Bureau stated that children under 5 years old are at high risk for severe enterovirus infection, with the severe disease progressing rapidly. If a child shows symptoms such as lethargy, confusion, weakness, muscle twitching, persistent vomiting, rapid breathing, or increased heart rate, they should be taken to the hospital immediately."Children under 5 years old are at high risk for severe enterovirus infection. Zhang Huimei reminded the public that although the domestic enterovirus epidemic has eased, it is still in the epidemic period. Households with young children should pay special attention to maintaining good hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing with soap for both adults and children and ensuring the cleanliness and ventilation of the home environment. Upon returning home, adults should change clothes before contacting young children to prevent the spread of infection.
Additionally, parents should avoid sending sick children to school, tutoring classes, or summer camps, and closely monitor for symptoms of severe disease to ensure the health and safety of young children.
