The Taichung City Government Transportation Bureau, in collaboration with the Tourism Bureau, successfully secured subsidies from the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation for the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle program. They launched a new sightseeing bus route, Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Daxueshan Line 889. This route departs from Fengyuan Transfer Center and connects popular tourist attractions around Fengyuan, Shigang, Dongshi, and Daxueshan. The service officially starts on August 1, offering eight daily trips, providing the public with a low-carbon and convenient way to enjoy the natural beauty of Daxueshan.

Director of the Transportation Bureau, Yeh Zhao-fu, stated that with the rise of domestic tourism, the demand for sightseeing in Taichung City continues to increase. The original Route 252 bus, which departed from Dongshi to the Daxueshan Forest Recreation Area, increased its service to eight trips on holidays last December due to high demand, yet it still fell short. Therefore, the newly established Route 889 bus offers daily service, departing from Fengyuan Transfer Center. It allows tourists to easily transfer from rail and road to the bus and continue their journey to the Daxueshan Forest Recreation Area. This initiative not only enhances the tourism services in Taichung City but also promotes regional economic development.Route 889 - Fengyuan Transfer Center to Daxueshan Forest Recreation Area - Route Map. Route 889 buses pass through stations such as the Dongfeng Bicycle Green Corridor, Dongshi Forestry Cultural Park, Henglingshan Trail, Yuanzuishan Trailhead, and Daxueshan National Forest Recreation Area, providing a convenient transportation option for tourists who love hiking and cycling. Director Yeh further pointed out that to provide more convenient services, the Route 889 buses use Type B large buses, some of which are equipped with hydraulic lifts to offer accessible services. Due to the vehicle weight limit on the Daxueshan Forest Road, bus seats are limited. Therefore, Zhong Taiwan Bus Company offers a seat reservation mechanism, and tourists can call the Zhong Taiwan Bus customer service number (0800-676-676) to make reservations and ensure a smooth trip.Route 889 Sub-route Map.
