With the assistance of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, the Umay Theater of the Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taiwan and the Honda Theater of Shimokita in Japan are going to build a cooperative project that 《The Last Night of Beauty Karaoke》(麗晶卡拉OK的最後一夜) by VM Theatre Company will be performed from March 27 to 29 at the Honda Theater, which is known as a sacred ground for theater companies in Japan.《Jiafeng zhe hen》(夾縫轍痕) by 52PRO Theater of Japan will also be performed at the Umay Theater of the Huashan 1914 Creative Park from Feb. 21 to March. 1. Besides, the Honda Theater will provide an opportunity for Taiwanese theatrical talents to expand more possibilities for overseas tours and cross-domain exchanges for Taiwan-Japan small theaters.
Director of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, Wang Shufang, states that Japanese theaters' development is well developed so that the domestic demand is able to support theaters' development. Over the past 30 years, the Honda Theater hadn't opened up its venue booking service. With the assistance of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, VM Theatre Company's show, 《The Last Night of Beauty Karaoke》finally got the chance to perform at the Honda Theater. This is the first time not only for Taiwan-Japan theater exchange but for the Honda Theater to provide its venue to a foreign team. With this meaningful experience of Taiwan-Japan exchange, it's expected to bring more cooperation opportunities for bilateral theaters' talent cultivation and performances.
《The Last Night of Beauty Karaoke》, which is written by Zhan Jie, a playwright who won a Golden Bell Award, and Li Zheyi, who won a Golden Melody Award for Traditional Arts and Music, conveys Taiwanese port atmosphere and commoners' passion and reflects the epitome of the era with a magical technique through Taiwan's and Japan's common folk culture, "Karaoke".
