For many women, the love of beauty is innate. At different stages of life, women face various skin, body, and mood challenges. How can these be alleviated? Aromatherapists suggest using suitable essential oils and hydrosols to pamper oneself. Aromatherapist Chen Mei-Chih has selected appropriate essential oils and hydrosols for women of different age groups to address their skin concerns.

Teenage and Young Adult Period (18-35 years)                              

Chen Mei-Chih explains that during this period, women often stay up late and wear makeup for long hours due to busy school and work schedules, leading to oily skin, acne, and enlarged pores. She recommends the following essential oils to improve these skin issues:

  • Eliminate Acne and Tighten Pores: Use tea tree essential oil, blended with carrier oils like jojoba oil or sweet almond oil, diluted to within 5%, and apply to the affected areas to soothe skin symptoms.
  • Reduce Acne Scars: Use helichrysum essential oil, diluted to 5-10%, to reduce acne scars and pigmentation.
  • Hydration and Moisturizing: Use neroli hydrosol, applied on a mask sheet for a hydrating compress, which can balance oil production and relax the mind.

Mature Middle Age Period (36-50 years)

In this period, women often have family and children to care for, leading to a state of constant sacrifice. Hormonal imbalances can cause the skin to lose elasticity and radiance. Chen Mei-Chih recommends:

  • Relaxation Before Bed: Use bitter orange leaf essential oil in a diffuser, accompanied by relaxing music and bedtime meditation, to find personal peace.
  • Soothing and Moisturizing: Use true lavender hydrosol for a hydrating compress to maintain skin moisture and soothe sensitivity. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to bathwater to relieve tension and aid sleep.

Menopausal Period (50 years and older)

In the traditional Indian and Buddhist medicine "Ayurveda," middle age is associated with the "fire" energy. Chen Mei-Chih suggests that at this time, it is crucial to replenish ample water to keep the skin and body hydrated. She advises:

  • Restore Youthful Skin: Use Damascus rose hydrosol for a 10-minute facial compress daily to help whiten the skin and reduce hot flashes.
  • Elastic and Radiant Skin: Use babassu oil or rosehip oil for skin massage, and perform oil baths weekly to keep the skin hydrated, helping to smoothly transition through menopause.
