【Taiwan Immigrants' Global News Network】According to The China Post, Cheng Ling-chiao (鄭伶巧), a student who is the second generation of Vietnamese, recently shared her experience of caring for her sick parents while still completing her schooling and revealed her ambition to become a lawyer in the future, inspiring many.

Cheng, who received the Yilan County Government's "2021 Outstanding Second-Generation" (110年度優秀新住民二代楷模) award, recounted the background of her difficult childhood and how she moved to Taiwan.

Cheng, who was born in 2007 in the impoverished rural districts of northern Vietnam, spent some time in her grandmother's house with her mother and sister. She began following her grandma around to buy supplies for their small convenience store when she was five years old.

Cheng learned early on that earning money took a lot of hard effort, from producing vegetables in fields to collecting fish at the seaside.

Her family relocated to Taiwan while she was in third grade, and she found herself in an unfamiliar environment with no skills to speak in the local language.

Cheng was teased by her classmates because of the language barrier. However, she not only obtained multiple academic honors in Vietnamese and Taiwanese poetry compositions after years of hard effort, but she also recently competed in a local judo competition, demonstrating her abilities in both academic and physical fields.
