Tainan's language training for taxi drivers amid virus outbreak

As the Covid-19 has greatly impacted national industries, such as tourism and transportation, Tainan City Government has managed to assist taxi drivers and non-governmental organizations in improving their language skills. The "National Taxi Drivers' Language Skills Training Program" has been launched to help taxi drivers improve their English, Japanese, and Korean to communicate with foreign tourists.

The city government not only assists drivers in applying for subsidies. The training program also aims to boost future tourism as soon as the virus outbreak ends. By the time, taxi drivers in Tainan will be able to talk with foreign passengers with simple conversations, such as "謝謝" in English, "Thank you", in Korean, "감사합니다", or in Japanese, "ありがとうございました", Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che stated.

The training program, organized by Taxi Driver Labor Unions ROC, provides daily English, Japanese, and Korean conversation courses and encourages taxi drivers to use social media platforms to conduct self-marketing and reach potential customers. Quality of future tourism will also be raised, the Bureau of Transportation of Tainan City Government stated.
