The world's most powerful passports for 2025

Singapore tops the global rankings in the quarterly index of the world's strongest passports.
Singapore tops the global rankings in the quarterly index of the world's strongest passports.

Singapore reclaims its position as the world's top-ranked passport, offering holders visa-free access to 195 out of 227 destinations, according to the latest Henley Passport Index. Japan secures second place with access to 193 destinations, including recently restored visa-free entry to China. EU nations like France, Germany, and Spain join South Korea in third place with 192 destinations.

The index highlights the growing disparity in global mobility. At the bottom of the rankings, Afghanistan ranks last with visa-free access to only 26 destinations. Meanwhile, the UAE, a rising star, has climbed to 10th place with 185 destinations.

Henley & Partners' list, celebrating its 20th year, underscores global inequalities in freedom of movement and calls for a reevaluation of citizenship as a "birthright lottery" in an increasingly unstable world.
