2021 International Olympiad in Informatics Online Competition: Taiwan Team wins 1 Gold and 3 Silver Medals

 In the 33rd International Olympiad in Informatics Online Competition in 2021 (2021年第33屆國際資訊奧林匹亞線上競賽), 4 students from Taiwan formed the "Taiwan National Team" to represent the country. Among 351 students from 88 countries, they won a total of 1 gold and 3 silver medals and ranked 5th internationally. 

The gold medal winner is Lin ping-hsuan (林秉軒), a student from Chien Kuo Senior High School in Taipei (台北市立建國高級中學). He took a programming course in junior high school. He started from the basic C-language and learned how to make the computer execute what he wanted it to do. He hopes that after he enters university, he will have the opportunity to join competitions abroad again.

Li Chung-mou (李忠謀), the vice president of National Taiwan Normal University, serves as the IOI President (國際資訊奧林匹亞主席), together with more than 10 professors and scholars from other local universities, formed an advisory team. He is responsible for the selection and training of this year’s team. He has gone through 4 stages in the selection process: preliminary, primary, secondary and final elections. After the selection process, 4, 4 out of 4,034 students were chosen to represent our country in the competition.

The Ministry of Education (MOE, 教育部) said, to reward the students for their outstanding performance, those who win gold, silver, and bronze medals in this competition can be recommended to the computer information related departments of the universities or can be recommended to other the departments of the universities. In addition, those who won gold, silver and bronze medals in the competition will receive NT$200,000, NT$100,000 and NT$50,000 worth of scholarships from the Ministry of Education respectively.
