Kazuki is a new immigrant from Nagoya, Japan, who has been residing in Taiwan for more than three years. He moved to Taiwan to expend his acting career despite having a wealth of stage performing experience back home. Kazuki is currently studying Chinese while working because he is particularly interested in the language. Additionally, he runs the "One Tree of Kazuki" YouTube channel, where he discusses the differences in culture between Taiwan and Japan as well as other unique experiences. In this episode's segment on "New Immigrants in Taiwan," Kazuki visited Ningxia Night Market to try grilled corn.

“I am curious about works in night market, because we don’t have night markets in Japan.” With curiosity in his eyes, Kazuki said. He also wants to know what time the vendors at the night market start working and what part of their job is challenging. Kazuki made the decision to film an episode of "A Japanese Experiences Work in Night Market" because he enjoys eating grilled corn and he had previously met Ziqi, the vendor of the grilled corn, through a friend.

When the sky was still bright, Kazuki and the owner were about to take the cart of the grilled corn stand to the night market. Due to the weight of the stacked ingredients, iron utensils, and kitchenware, Kazuki could hardly move the heavy stall. He was unable to see ahead and control the direction. “It's so dangerous, and I'm so exhausted” he yelled. Kazuki was relieved after carefully avoiding the crowd and parking the cart at the proper location until he recalled he still had a gas barrel left to carry.

The owner and Kazuki set up the gas stove and iron bucket, added water to the bucket, and made boiled corn. All of the grilled corn is sold fresh, the owner noted. He also mentioned that after 4:50, vendors of the Ningxia night market can enter to set up their stalls and prepare their ingredients. Kazuki used his free time while the water was boiling to visit other vendors and buy squid, chicken, and drinks for dinner.

Kazuki took up the hot corns with iron tongs and placed it into the iron basin once the pot's cover was opened, white smoke released. The corns that were yellow and purple caught Kazuki's attention. The unique variety of corn, according to the owner, are more nutritious. Kazuki used his bare hands to insert the bamboo sticks into the cooked corns as the owner was preparing the sauce. It required a lot of work to insert the bamboo sticks into the corns because they were extremely hard. “My hand hurts!” Kazuki yelled

The toasted corns keep the sauce within two or three minutes so that it won't stain the paper bag when it's packaged for customers. The ownwr also taught Kazuki the secret of grilling corn; When the corn is a little burnt, you can use a brown brush to brush off the burnt part, then apply the first layer of sauce and put it back and roast for a while, and then apply the second layer of different sauces.

“I think that the difficult time is when there are not many people on rainy days. Plus, the epidemic brings great impact. It’s hot summer now and not many people want to buy grilled corns.” The owners said. “The sauces are all handmade freshly, and the second layer of unique sauces are almost all made of traditional Chinese medicine, which is very healthy.” The owner was confident about the quality of the sauce.

"It's so delicious!" Kazuki said with joy after taking a bite of the corn he’d roasted himself. Two layers of different sauces add multiple flavors to the grilled corn, which was completely different from the grilled corn that Kazuki had ate in Japan without sauce. In the end, Kazuki thanked the owner and called it a fulfilling and pleasant day.
