Two Passengers Attempted to Enter and Leave NAIA Illegally

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Tuesday reported the interception of two foreigners at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for attempting to illegally enter and leave the country.

According to the report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, BI Port Operations Division chief Grifton Medina said the Chinese and African passengers were apprehended separately last week upon their arrival and departure at the NAIA Terminals 1 and 3, respectively.

The first foreigner was identified as Wang Zhi Qiang, 22, who was intercepted on November 14 when he arrived via a China Southern flight from Xiamen, China. Wang was barred from entering the country after an immigration officer saw his name in the bureau’s database of blacklisted aliens for being a fugitive from justice. The BI reportedly blacklisted Wang after receiving information from the Chinese government that subject is wanted in his country for involvement in telecommunications fraud.

On the other hand, the Cameroonian identified as Enow Lewis, 20, was caught with a fake passport at the departure area as he was attempting to board his Cebu Pacific flight to Hong Kong on November 12. Immigration officer Maureen Tolentino was alerted of the fraud when her computer system detected discrepancies in Lewis’ passport. Visual inspection showed that Lewis’ passport is still valid, while the system tagged it as expired. She then referred the document to BI’s forensic document laboratory, which confirmed that the travel document is fraudulent.
