As “Pregnancy checkup leave for the husband” and “Paternity leave” have been increased from 5 days to 7 days since 2021. For the 2 additional days, the salary is subsidized by the central government, and both parents can apply for parental leave and claim subsidies at the same time. This will take effect from January 18.

“Pregnancy checkup leave for the husband” and “Paternity leave” are leaves for the employee to accompany their spouses for the maternity examination, which should be taken during the pregnancy of the spouse. Employees can choose to take leaves with the "half-day" or "hours" as the unit, and these must be permitted by employers.  

For those who choose to ask for leave in the unit of “hour”, the calculation of "7 days" can be calculated by multiplying 8 hours per day by 7, for a total of 56 hours. Furthermore, after the employee chooses the "half-day" or "hour" as the leave unit, it cannot be changed.

The Ministry of Labor emphasized that as long as the employee makes a request, the employer must not refuse, otherwise, a fine of NT$20,000 to NT$300,000 can be imposed, and the name of the institution or business owner and the person in charge could also be announced.
