American writer Erin Hale, who is based in Taiwan, recently tweeted about how she misplaced her wallet at a tourist site there but immediately retrieved it. She referred to Taiwan as "Wow Taiwan" in the post. Hale indicated that she was considering her options after learning that she had misplaced her wallet. A person who discovered the wallet contacted her through Facebook in less than 10 minutes, and Hale promptly received wallet back.

Hale is a student of Chinese at National Taiwan Normal University and has published articles for a variety of international publications, such as The Guardian, The Independent, Al Jazeera, Voice of America (VOA), etc. Hale expressed her amazement at the experience of finding the missing wallet, despite the fact that she had heard of several other such stories. Hale also tweeted about the experience, which had created a stir.

After Hale learned that the story of the missing wallet sparked discussions in the Taiwanese community, she also made fun of herself on Twitter that she made it on the news in Taiwan. Hale also expressed surprise with "WOW Taiwan" on Taiwan's security and the virtues of Taiwanese via social media that in Taiwan, a lost wallet can still be sent back and remain untouched.
