New Wave of Multiculturalism in Penghu Celebrating Migrants Day Together

To celebrate the Migrants Day on December 18, the Penghu Country Government held an advocacy event of “New wave” of multiculturalism on 8th to convey an image, “the world in Penghu”. County Mayor Lai Fengwei pointed out at the event that Penghu has 1,600 new immigrants, so through the Migrants Day event, more opportunities were offered for people from various countries to gather together. Everyone loves each other, and Penghu is the big family of cultural integration.

 

Lai Fengwei stated that people from all corners of Penghu can see many migrant workers and the immigrants work hard, organize their families, and gradually integrate into our culture and life. A "the world in Penghu" scenery was formed, and it became a small global village on this land. Penghu has more than 3,000 migrant workers from 22 countries. The Migrants Day event is a reunion of families of new residents and migrant workers with different nationalities. This group of people working hard on this foreign land is like a family and let the public see the multiculturalism and positive strength of Penghu.

 

Lai Fengwei lauded the five townships’ and one city’s comprehensive community services offices, a volunteer model of new residents, Deng Lili, an interpreter model of new residents, Huang Jinghuang fang, an employment model of new residents, Wu Quanfei, a family model of new residents, Zhu Yinglian, the king of multicultural services, Wang Kami, an expert of multicultural education, Yang Mingxiang, and Zheng Xuexia, who has made great contributions to the local services and confirmed their devotions to the cultural integration.

 

The Social Affairs Department of Penghu stated that through this reunion, the families of migrant workers from many countries could get together, not only to appreciate their hard work for many years in Penghu but also to make more friends, solidify the coherence of ethnic groups, and enhance the mutual emotions. Therefore, the new residents and migrant workers could overcome their homesickness and have a sense of belonging in this foreign different place to promote international exchanges and broaden their understanding of foreign cultures.
