According to PH screening new bird flu, ASF vaccine applicants | Inquirer Business, a Department of Agriculture (DA) official stated on October 16 that more overseas businesses are interested in providing vaccinations against African swine fever (ASF) and avian flu in order to stop the spread of animal illnesses in the Philippines.

There have been four applications for the ASF vaccination, according to Agriculture Undersecretary Deogracias Victor Savellano.

In order to undertake a vaccination trial, the DA is completing the memorandum of understanding with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and the stakeholders.

The initial vaccination applicant's phase 1 trial came to an end in May, and three trial farms—in Padre Garcia, Batangas; Lucena City, Quezon; and Masiqui, Pangasinan—are currently conducting phase 2 testing.

There were seven applications for the avian influenza (AI) vaccination, according to a different DA paper. According to PH screening new bird flu, ASF vaccine applicants | Inquirer Business, three applications have so far been submitted to the Food and Drug Administration by the DA seeking a special import permission.

In order to undertake a vaccination trial, the Department of Agriculture is completing the memorandum of understanding with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and the stakeholders.

The initial vaccination applicant's phase 1 trial came to an end in May, and three trial farms—in Padre Garcia, Batangas; Lucena City, Quezon; and Masiqui, Pangasinan—are currently conducting phase 2 testing.

The second applicant has not yet sent the required paperwork in its entirety to the BAI. According to Savellano, the DA is expediting the application procedure for medications, vaccines, and biological products for use in veterinary care.

In a speech, Savellano stated that the DA aims to do the AI and ASF vaccinations as quickly as possible while still ensuring their safety. In order to speed up trials, approvals, and their eventual usage, the DA is simplifying the procedure, which involves striking a balance.

The DA will provide the regulation paperwork for signature to President Marcos, the Agriculture Secretary.

Although AI vaccines have been available for a while, Savellano noted that there is currently no established methodology for their testing, approval, or usage.
