According to [Taiwan Today], President Tsai Ing-wen lauded the achievements of Team Taiwan’s 2020 Tokyo Olympics delegation during a special event at the Presidential Office in Taipei City on Sept. 1, spotlighting the government’s commitment to sporting excellence.
To maintain the momentum, Tsai said the government will continue providing funds to support local athletes via a special Sports Administration (SA) project, adding she is sure the team will go on to have even greater success at the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Tsai also took the opportunity to thank Vice President Lai Ching-te and Premier Su Tseng-chang for supporting the project, as well as the SA’s efforts in improving training venues and increasing investment in sports science over the past few years.
Team Taiwan achieved impressive results at the recently concluded Summer Olympics, Tsai said. Its success is a tribute to the tireless efforts of all involved and follows years of work behind the scenes to raise the country’s sporting profile, she added.
Tsai made the remarks during a meeting with 146 athletes, coaches, and support staff.

According to [Taiwan Today], launched in 2018 with a budget of NT$1.2 billion (US$40 million), the three-year SA project has provided personal training and specialized equipment to 38 selected athletes evaluated as having medal-winning potential.
According to the SA, the country’s performance at the Tokyo Olympics is the best since its debut at the games in 1932. Team Taiwan bagged two golds, four silvers and six bronzes. (YCH-E)
